Dear Parents,

We have had three great school days!  It is always fun to see the students coming back after the summer vacation.  Many of them are taller, less shy, and eager to be back.  The new kindergarten students are vivacious,           inquisitive, and self-assured.  The returning fifth graders have demonstrated their maturity by welcoming their new classmates.  I was impressed with the second graders on how well they were listening to the instructions of our new music teacher.   The third graders are very aware of who they are and respect each other’s background.  In the first grade, students are willing to help each other and in the fourth grade they are ready for a very special school year with one of our new teachers.

I am also proud to be working with a group of caring and committed        professionals. They prepared for the children’s arrival, their classes look beautiful and they have completed their overall curriculum plans for the year.  They understand the hard work that is involved in teaching reading, math, writing and the very unique and special role that music plays in this school.   Special thanks to Annie Sevelius, our Assistant Principal, for facilitating the transition and doing a lot of behind the scenes preparation.

Anne Whittredge, a seasoned retired principal, has agreed to help us for a few weeks as we prepare for our charter renewal site visit.  Another person with whom you are likely to interact is Nicole Spriggs.  She was the office manager for another charter school and has agreed to also assist us in the next few weeks.  Both of these positions will be posted and a selection    committee, with stakeholder representation, will be established to identify and screen candidates and assist with the final selection.  We are fortunate to have Anne and Nicole with us.

Apart from the text of this letter you will find information about             transportation, the after-school option, and the breakfast and lunch programs.

I am honored to be working at Conservatory Lab Charter School and to have met some of you already.   I look forward to seeing all of you at our next Open House to be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the school.

Sincerely,

Diana Lam
