5th Grade Travels to Fort Ticonderoga

ticonderoga1The 5th graders recently began an expedition on the American Revolution. The expedition began with an investigation on Henry Knox. Who was he? What did he do? Why was he important? The students learned that during the Revolutionary War Henry Knox traveled all the way from Boston to Fort Ticonderoga in NY and back in order to bring cannons to George Washington. The cannons allowed the Americans to win back control over Boston! Without these cannons, the British may not have left Boston on which is now Evacuation Day!

While at the fort, the students were able to experience life as 18th century military recruits. They practiced walking in formation, ate traditional food cooked outside on a manmade clay stove, and slept in rustic barracks. The experience was one that students will never forget!
