On Thursday night, at its first performance of the year, Chamber Orchestra received two standing ovations from leaders of the Boston Latino community. The performance, which included Ode to Joy and Amazing Grace, opened a memorial service honoring Yoel Camayd-Freixas, a long time supporter of Conservatory Lab and husband of former staff member Ana Perez. Head of School Diana Lam was among the family and friends who spoke remembering Yoel’s life and his contributions to the Boston community, empowering Latino youth and supporting public education.
For the students, it was an opportunity to see the impact one life can make and experience the emotional impact of their music. “I couldn’t believe it,” remarked 3rd grader Mark Anthony, “when we finished, the audience was crying tears.”
