On Wednesday, September 17th, nine Conservatory Lab winds & brass students  traveled to Symphony Hall to perform a half hour set  in the Pre-Concert portion of the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Concert for the City.

The set included scorching solos and the songs “Night and Day,” “Watermelon Man,” “Cantaloupe Island,” “Sonnymoon for Two,” “Cold Duck Time,” and “Pick Up the Pieces.”

“Conservatory Lab Charter School’s performance featured a lively jazz big band. Many students within the band performed exciting, improvised solos that showcased the lineage of jazz’s spontaneous and reactive style. They played well known jazz repertoire that was upbeat and grooving well.”

– Zoe Murphy, Boston Symphony Orchestra Program Manager

This collaboration is part of a larger partnership with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, who performed at Conservatory Lab on October 12th in their Community Chamber Concert series.
