Tiffany Rice recently joined the administrative team at the Conservatory Lab Charter School, located in Dorchester, MA, as the Director of El Sistema in July 2020. Prior to her start there, she has had experience as a music educator and administrator. At the Winsor School in Boston, MA, an independent girls’ school, Ms. Rice was the Performing Arts Director, and she taught beginning and intermediate string classes, chamber music, and general music classes. She also built the middle school and high school orchestra programs.
At the Ashley Hall School in Charleston, SC, another girls’ school, Ms. Rice established, coordinated, and taught violin in the school’s string program in which all Kindergarten students received group violin classes as part of the curriculum. She taught private violin lessons, group violin classes for beginning, intermediate, and advanced players, and middle school string orchestra. Ms. Rice has served on the violin faculty for the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute, and she is currently on the violin faculty for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s YOLA National Festival Chamber Orchestra.
Ms. Rice studied violin pedagogy with Mimi Zweig and Brenda Brenner at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and she was a violin faculty member for the IU String Academy. In addition to teaching, Ms. Rice has performed with the Calliope and Apollo Ensembles in Boston as well as several orchestras and chamber ensembles in the southeastern United States. Ms. Rice is thrilled to join the CLCS community, and her goal this year is to support the El Sistema teachers as they explore exciting, innovative methods for teaching music remotely that still fosters a connection among our students.
