On Tuesday, 7th graders in Ms. Schibuk’s crew had the special opportunity to work with spoken word poet and motivational speaker, Akeem Lloyd. Through his poems, Mr. Lloyd shared some of the challenges he faced growing up, and how he was able to overcome them and learn to feel good about himself and his accomplishments. “It was inspiring that he found a way to express his feelings with poetry, since he wasn’t supposed to talk about his emotions when he was a kid,” one 7th grader said.
Students then applied what they learned about spoken word poetry to give rhythm to their own lyrical creations, focusing in on topics such as memorable life moments, sports, love, and family.
