Ms. Schibuk’s science class has just begun their chemistry unit, which focuses on the chemistry of materials.
Students will use their understanding of materials and chemistry to explore the environmental impacts of the electronics industry and to consider different solutions to the issues of and electronic waste.
This is their first of four major labs in this unit. The goal is to investigate the chemical and physical properties of plastics, and then to learn about how different plastic polymers are made.
As the students study the science of plastics, they are reading about the impact of plastic waste in the oceans.
