Our Winter Concert Series Wraps Up with Some Big Band Flair

All hands were on deck early on the morning of December 14, as classroom and Sistema teachers and administrative staff hurried to get ready for the last winter concert of the season. After weeks of preparation and despite the last-minute stress of dealing with a blackout at the theater, no one was quite prepared for the full effect of just how action-packed this concert was! From some lovely performances by the Dudamel Brass, to a surprise appearance by the Pixie Club, to a marching band-style number that made everyone dance in their seats, Monday’s concert was a perfect finale to our winter concert series. Here are some highlights from the day: DSC_1871
The Dudamel Brass performed “Fanfare for Fay,” an original song composed by Chris Schroeder in honor of Fay chandler, beloved patron of the arts and our school.

The 7th and 8th graders performed “Amazing Grace” as part of their music integration project, in which they’ve been studying the history of spirituals and how they impact life and culture.

The winds, brass, and percussion players from the Dudamel and Abbado orchestras teamed up to surprise the audience and play “Second Line” and “When the Saints Go Marching In” in the aisles of the theater!

The Dudamel Orchestra delighted with a lovely rendition of “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.”

Congratulations to all our students and teachers! We are so proud that our school perseveres to deliver not one but three beautiful and entertaining concerts. Photos from all three concerts are our facebook page now, and we will post videos on our Youtube page early next year!
